I’ve always believed the best way to know a subject is to study it from multiple disciplines.

Because of this, I teach guitar from the three disciplines of flamenco, classical, and folk/pop guitar styles. Through this broad teaching method, students will gain a familiarity with multiple musical styles, cultures, rhythms, and tonalities, helping them to become well-rounded and informed musicians.

I also believe learning an instrument should be as natural as learning your native language. This philosophy, inspired by my music education courses at UCLA, has come to define my teaching style. Music starts in the mind, and therefore my lessons rely heavily on audiation (hearing music in your head).

Flamenco

Having studied under the guidance of a master flamenco guitarist for 5 months in Spain, I have the unique ability to teach flamenco guitar in its purest form— just as I myself was taught while living in Granada. Flamenco is a passionate and wild art form, and for those who devote themselves to learning it, great fulfillment awaits.

Classical

I also have the experience necessary to teach classical guitar, having studied instrumental performance at the university level for 5 years. Classical guitar is a nuanced and sensitive style, and highly rewarding for students who pursue learning the art form.

Folk/Pop

Finally, being a self-taught guitarist for many years, I have bountiful experience learning and performing all varieties of folk, rock, blues, pop, and alternative guitar songs. I still have a deep appreciation for popular music, and I enjoy incorporating songs students are familiar with into my lessons.

I generally give lessons of 30 minutes to 1 hour, and I am able to give virtual lessons as well. As I am based in Santa Barbara, CA, there are some limitations to how far I can travel, but I try to find a solution whenever possible.
